  • JEMIMA PUDDLE-DUCK TREASURE TRAIL

    Jemima Puddle-Duck Treasure Trail 🥚

    Join us for a family treasure trail around Woodend Mill during the Open Studios Weekend!

    Follow the ducks sitting on their nests throughout the mill and collect the secret letters hidden on the eggs to discover what Jemima Puddle-Duck is doing. The trail takes children and families on an adventure through artist studios, hidden corners of the mill and down to the River Tame beside the historic weaving shed.

    The final clue leads to The Sewing Studio where children can also take part in creative workshops.

    A lovely free activity for families exploring the studios across the weekend.

    HATCH BAKERY

    Hatch Bakery is well known to many for their hand crafted baked goods, sandwiches, toasties, pies and specialty coffee…all served from their small ‘hatch’ on the ground floor. What you may not know is the small team make everything on site in their commercial kitchen using locally sourced quality ingredients and their own recipes. Come early as they always sell out!

    There is no better place to find delicious food for your festive table. Always the warmest of welcomes, Christmas trees and everything twinkly waits at the best Farm Shop ever! They also have a Hotline direct to Santa, so pop in and let Santa know exactly what you want for Christmas. Pick up your map for the Mousicals Save Christmas trail through the mill too…it all starts here…look for the mystical balloons and the Green Monster!

    LUNA CRAFTS GROUP - Mill 1 - Level 1

    Lots of Hand crafted gifts will be on sale. Always a hub of creativity Luna Craft will welcome visitors to get crafting with lots of materials, inspiration and examples to spark the imagination of all ages. They will also be offing visitors the opportunity to make a Christmas bauble.

    Visit Nancy in her small and perfectly formed studio where you will find a collection of mixed media framed textile pieces for sale.

    PATTERN MAKER DESIGN STUDIO - Mill 1 - Level 3

    Rachel will be delivering the wonderful family trail for Phantasmagoria CIC, so will not be in her own studio. You can see and purchase her beautiful original fabrics and interiors pieces from Level 3, Mill One.

  • SHADOW MOSAIC - Mill 1 - Level 2

    Ready just in time for the Open Weekend, Shadow Mosaics is a contemporary mosaic studio that runs workshops and private parties.

    Mosaic artist Helena creates pieces using ceramic, glass and mixed materials, inspired by colour, texture, and nature, celebrating the beauty of handcrafted imperfection. 

    The workshops are a great way for both beginners and improvers to learn new skills in a welcoming environment.

    SOURCE - Mill 1 Level 2

    SOURCE is a specialist crystal and artisan gift shop with an emphasis on healing and wellness it is also the practice of Kelly Wood; a shamanic healer and medium who also offers psychic and tarrot readings by private consultation.

    ANNIE KÈKI - Mill 1 - Level 3

    The design and sewing studio will be open for the sale of jewellery and children’s clothing…perfect for the season of gifting. We will also be offering fabric bundles as we are having a big stocktake and lots needs to go. All very high quality, perfect for quilting, crafting etc…. A full program of sewing courses will be available in 2026 with a discount if you sign up over the Open Studio Weekend.

    SUZANNE DARKE - Mill 1 - Level 3

    We have an interesting studio space filled with eclectic items collected over many years. Original prints, framed and unframed will be on sale and I will be working in the studio on Lino carving and printing visitors are very welcome to call in and see the process.

    Nichola will be welcoming visitors to her beautiful treatment room throughout the Open Weekend. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the treatments available, discuss your individual needs, and book future appointments.

    HAZEL GREEN - Mill 1 - Level 3

    Hazel always has a delightful selection of hand crafted items, which you can find in her equally charming studio in Mill 1. There are always lots of beautiful gift ideas so one to visit early if you have a list of gifts for that special someone.

    SARAH HARDACRE - Mill 1 - Level 3

    Sarah Hardacre is visual artist, printmaker and cultural producer. In both her personal and public practice, Hardacre is a visual archivist and historian, immersed in trawling images in public archives to reveal hidden narratives. Her collage and print works explore the experience of women within the urban built environment and the complex relationship between female bodies, architecture and space. And her public commissions extend to co-curated performances, community driven projects and large scale installations which investigate the sociohistorical stories of place. Sarah’s work is exhibited internationally and featured in a major retrospective of 400 years of Women Artists at Sotherby’s London in 2023. Her work is held in public and private collections worldwide including the British Museum and Damien Hirst’s MurderMe collection. The open event is an opportunity to look inside Sarah’s studio, see unique works, limited edition prints, meet the artist and explore behind the scenes of her practice.

    LITTLE BEAR PHOTOS - Mill 1- Level 3

    Eve will be in her beautiful photography studio to talk with you and take booking. Eve specialises in pet, commercial and family photography and manages to capture the character of the sitter in a very personal way. If you are looking to capture memories of your family or pets it is worth a visit and a conversation with Eve.

    A Ceramicist, Marina is a studio holder at Woodend Mill and an active member of the Ukrainian refugee community ensuring cultural and creative exchanges are possible while contributing to integrate these into our creative mill community. Marina offers workshops in ceramics and came up with the inspiration for the events treasure hunt.

    I have been designing and making recycled greetings cards since 2010, from my studio in Uppermill, Saddleworth, with a love of hand-drawn and painted illustration.  My joyful designs are a collaboration of my designs, our brilliant local printmakers, Phillip who keeps everything running smoothly and packs up up all of the orders beautifully, our friends who help to pack up all of the cards, and our suppliers of recycled cardstock and biodegradable cello sleeves.

    Hugh will be in his studio exhibiting his latests works which will be for sale. Hugh as been a studio holder at Woodend Mill for many years and continues to enjoy basing his practice within such a diverse and growing creative community.

    Green Man Studio is the home of realist painter Peter Davies. He tries to capture the beauty of everyday scenes in woods, canals and buildings. Most of the paintings are based in the North West where he draws his inspiration from

  • THE ROOTED DARKROOM - Mill 1 - Level 3

    The Rooted Darkroom reveals the magic of eco photography. It’s a space for crafting sustainable photographic potions from plant-based developers to anthotypes, caffenol, and much more.

    Here, photography becomes a kind of alchemy, returning to its roots through processes that are gentler on the planet.

    Jane Tonge lives in Greenfield and specialises in fluid art, printing botanicals with gelli plates, alcohol ink and jewellery.

  • SUSAN VICKERS - Mill 1 - Level 3

    Susan will be joining us again to welcome in the festive season. Delightful hand crafted, embroidered works full of charm and perfect for gifting. The attention to detail in Sue’s work makes the small scale stitch details and intricate mark making with tread means there is always something new to focus on.

    Zoya is a studio holder at Woodend Mill and specialises in authentic gingerbread with bespoke decorations, we are delighted Zoya will be kindly selling some branded gingerbread to raise funds to support the restoration of the weaving shed at Woodend Mill, thank you Zoya. It’s a wonderful way to make a small contribution to a big project, so pop in and enjoy!

    GLYNIS THORPE - Mill 2 - Level 2

    Saddleworth artist Glynis will be exhibiting and selling her stunning works from her studio in Mill 2, certainly one not to miss as you travel round the mills. Her work captures landscapes from near and far, mainly in acrylic and perfect to treat yourself or for gifting. There is always a warm welcome and plenty of lively conversation so if you enjoy art and good company, this is a studio not to be missed.

    Katrin Viella is a corporate psychologist turned visionary artist. She is joining Woodend Mill Artists this June 2026 and will be opening her own studio shortly. She creates wellbeing art to inspire hope and healing in people with childhood trauma. Katrin experienced that art has a profound healing effect where words or therapy can't reach. Art creation had always helped her in difficult moments. Her artwork is intuitive, abstract, and colourful and she uses a mix of digital and mixed media techniques. Her aim is to help you feel your inner strength and whole again, whilst reconnecting with your softness.
